Exhibition

Lowriders or Car Art
October 23-27
Free entrance, in the Nef Curial
Four Lowrider cars will be parked in the nave of Slick 08. This exhibition of custom and collector cars will allow us to discover an artistic practice that is relatively unknown in France and to understand more about the history of Lowriding. Born in the 1930s in California and from a Mexican tradition, this movement was an artistic symbol for minority struggles. By collecting and customizing symbols of the consumer society considered to be out of their social access, artists were affirming their strength, ambition and desires for equality. This mode of appropriation now represents a form of expression for middle-class urbanites. The art of Lowriding reflects a certain lifestyle, one associated with the streets, and a reality that pushes people to render the everyday more beautiful.

Vernissage

Thursday October 23 – From 6pm to 11pm

Invitation only for the Fair Space

Slick opens its doors on artworks by artists from the 58 represented galleries.
Slick also invites artists from different backgrounds to organize performances in the Nave and on the suspended garden, which will also welcome the restaurant,

(6:30pm - 7:30pm) Le Labo Toluène

(7:30pm to 8:30pm)
Les Cocottes Band du Transversal
Gilles Stassart, director of the nomadic restaurant Le Transversal, has created “Les cocottes Band”. Musicians play with, from and around a dozen cooking pots, an idea inspired by Boris Vian’s Pianococktail and a performance that brings together the world of cooking, music and contemporary art. www.restaurant-transversal.com

The Cie Nikola Salvani develop a work around the blaxploitation of the 60’s and 70s, and the dansed body expression. They bring life to the Lowrider cars, with ghettoblasters on their shoulder.

(10pm-11pm) Le Labo Toluène
Comes back for a dj set electro-rock.

Late-Night

Saturday October 25 – From 7pm-11pm
Nave and Room 200: free entrance

Connected to the five Slick 08 galleries who defend urban art – Galerie Patricia Dorfmann, Studio 55, Galerie Barnoud and ADDICT Galerie who also exhibit representatives of this movement – Slick is organizing a Street Art Party.

(7pm to 8pm) Le Labo Toluène

(8pm-9pm) Locking dancers

(9:15pm-10:30pm > room 200) Akrylonumerik
Gilbert Petit and Jaime Jimenez conduct an akrylonumérik.com performance that mixes together graffiti/posters/animation and video.
A white canvas will be stretched out in front of computers equipped with video projectors. Artists will work directly on the canvas while infographic designers will integrate their own creations. In parallel, a DJ will be composing an audio universe in real time. The three types of media (painting, digital and sound) along with the artists will respond to each other, and also listen, watch and improvise.

TWO RADIO STATIONS INVITED TO SLICK 08

“Autoradio” Art radio International in the Lowrider-Studio
From October 23-27 – Nef Curial
Art Radio International in collaboration with New York’s P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center takes over one of the Lowrider cars transformed into a Lowrider studio. For five days, the team will track all the news at the fair and will follow its rhythm, broadcasted live on the web.
5 days for meetings, debates and interviews.
5 days to take your time in the heart of Slick and to discover what is really going on at this Paris fair, no matter where you are in the world. www.wps1.org


Le Grand magasin 100% Slick by Radio Nova
Friday October 24
From 5pm-8pm at Slick and on Radio Nova
For Slick 08, the “Grand Magasin” show by Radio Nova’s Aline Afanoukoé will collaborate with the Art Radio International team from P.S.1 and will set up stage in the Slick 08 Nave, at the heart of the Lowriders exhibition. 3 hours of music, meetings and discoveries that will give a speaking slot to Slick’s main actors (artists, galleries, visitors) on Radio Nova, while listening to the musical program produced especially for the contemporary art week in Paris: 101.5 FM

Since its first edition, Slick has promoted the art of the moving image in its fair by selecting galleries that are specialized in this area and by dedicating a space for this type of art presented by a program of artist videos.  For this new edition of the fair, three video programs are presented: COCOSOLIDCITI EXTRACTS from the Cocosolidciti label by Le Cube and Sous influence 4 by Talents Vidéo.
